The EMS Section serves as an institutional partner to the UW Health Emergency Education Center (EEC). Our EMS physicians regularly develop and review educational content and serve as instructors for prehospital courses, including Primary Paramedic Program and Difficult Airway Course: EMS. Dr. Michael Lohmeier serves as medical director for the Emergency Education Center.
The EEC provides training in the areas of emergency and medical care. From CPR courses to advanced life support courses to prehospital education and EMS liaisons, the EEC supports health professional education and training needs throughout the region that meets American Heart Association guidelines.
Our Prehospital Division faculty are heavily involved with reviewing and approving their educational content, and our physicians regularly teach during the course. Additionally, the EEC is the lead in EMS primary and continuing education for the UW Health EMS Consortium. We work closely with the EMS Liaison for UW Health, who is also an educator with the EEC and helps to coordinate EMS outreach, quality assurance, and continuing education planning.
The EEC has provided training for Primary Paramedic students since the 1970’s and is one of only a handful of centers in Wisconsin to achieve accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation. The EEC also teaches an advanced Critical Care Transport Course, and it is the only licensed site in Wisconsin to conduct The Difficult Airway Course: EMS.
