Department again ranked among top in nation for emergency medicine research

The BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) has been ranked among the top 20 departments in the nation for research funds awarded in emergency medicine by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2020. In addition, Dr. Manish Shah, professor and vice chair of research, is also among the top 20 emergency medicine researchers in the nation, according to the annual rankings released by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.

The BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency conducts innovative clinical and translational research in emergency care and fosters the successful development of investigators dedicated to generating new knowledge.

Our faculty and staff are developing original research ideas, obtaining competitive funding support, publishing high-impact papers, and serving in consequential leadership roles with many societies and organizations within our specialty.  Core areas of research with significant grant funding, publications, and ongoing efforts include antimicrobial stewardship, emergency care for infectious diseases, geriatric emergency medicine, predictive analytics, and prehospital medicine.

This ranking reflects the continued exceptional achievement of our researchers and staff as leaders in the specialty of emergency medicine research.
