Michael Pulia, MD, MS, and Rebecca Schwei, MPH, were recognized by the UW-Madison Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS) program for their outstanding mentorship of an undergraduate scholar during the 2019-2020 academic year.
Despite a spring semester replete with transitions and disruptions, EM faculty and staff enthusiastically sustained this high-impact practice and continued to collaborate remotely with our students in their research and creative endeavors. The relationship between URS Mentors and their URS Scholars is unique on our campus. This high-impact mentorship practice provides early undergraduates with valuable skills that help them pursue scholarship at the next level.
By training and mentoring students through their research and creative practices, URS Mentors contribute to the University’s ability to produce graduates who demonstrate a breadth of knowledge in their field as well as global and cultural competence, become engaged leaders, and develop a depth of independent thought that is analytical, passionate, and creative. Engaging in scholarly endeavors as an undergraduate is central to our students’ Wisconsin Experience.
