Dr. Ryan Newberry joins the physician leadership team with UW Health Med Flight as Assistant Medical Director, joining Dr. Drew Cathers, medical director, and Dr. Brittney Bernardoni, assistant medical director for quality. Dr. Newberry will focus on operations, quality improvement, and clinical training and development.
Dr. Newberry is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and subspecialty-boarded in Emergency Medicine Services. Dr. Newberry has been flying with UW Health Med Flight since 2019. In addition to his role as assistant medical director, Dr. Newberry also works clinically as an attending physician at the BerbeeWalsh Emergency Departments at University Hospital and at the emergency department at East Madison Hospital.
Dr. Newberry completed his medical training at the Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine before turning to a military career, undertaking his emergency medicine residency, chief residency, and fellowship training at the San Antonio Military Medical Center. He also obtained his master’s degree in public health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Newberry came to us with a wealth of experience, including ground and flight Fire and EMS experience as a paramedic prior to attending medical school. He also has extensive leadership experience in both the military and civilian sectors.
