University of Wisconsin recognized as a Gold Level Center for Excellence in Life Support

The University of Wisconsin ECLS Center has received the Gold Level ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support for 2020-2023 from the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), an international non-profit consortium of healthcare institutions who are dedicated to the development and evaluation of novel therapies for support of failing organ systems..

The ELSO Excellence in Life Support Award recognizes ECLS programs worldwide that distinguish themselves by having processes, procedures and systems in place that promote excellence and exceptional care through ECPR/ECMO intervention. At UW, it demonstrates to the healthcare community an assurance of our high quality standards, specialized equipment and supplies, defined patient protocols, and advanced education of all staff members.

It also signifies to patients and families our commitment to exceptional patient care.

In particular, it is the innovative, collaborative, and conscientious work of Drs. Joshua Glazer (ECPR/ECMO in the ED) and Drew Cathers (Med Flight ECMO transport) – along with a multidisciplinary team in and out of the hospital setting –  to make this a reality.

We are honored to have our ECLS program recognized for reaching the highest level of performance, innovation and quality.
