Dr. Manish Shah, professor and vice chair of research at the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine, was selected for the faculty Spotlight feature in the latest issue of Quarterly magazine, the magazine for alumni, friends, faculty and students of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Quarterly is published four times a year by the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association and UW School of Medicine and Public Health and has a large circulation throughout the United States and a few abroad.
Shah Leads Grant Aimed at Enhanced Emergency Care for People with Dementia

The article outlines a new $7.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) which Dr. Shah will be co-leading with Ula Hwang, MD of Yale School of Medicine. The effort aims to leverage expertise in emergency medicine, geriatrics and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias to identify gaps in emergency care for people with dementia and address those gaps.
The funds will support Geriatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network 2.0 – Advancing Dementia Care (GEAR 2.0 ADC), which is a collaboration between SMPH, Yale School of Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. All four institutions are home to an NIH-National Institute on Aging-designated Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
