Research Support & Collaboration

How We Can Support You

The BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine provides services and resources to help investigators plan, fund, review, and conduct emergency care research. Whether you are a department researcher, UW–Madison collaborator, external investigator, or industry sponsor, we can help:

  • Bring your research proposal for review by the EM Research Committee
  • Find resources for study design, data analysis, or participant enrollment
  • Find resources for grants or contracts
  • Learn about major areas of research at the UW Department of Emergency Medicine
  • Launch your study in the Emergency Department
  • Request clinical study coordination or consultation support
  • Highlight collaborative research in coordination with your home unit
  • Request a feasibility assessment or initiate site qualification
  • Partner with one of our physician scientists
  • Engage our clinical study coordination services
  • Publish a press release related to research conducted at UW
  • Apply for fellowship training in Emergency Medicine Research or Clinical Informatics
  • Learn more about resident-led research and scholarship
  • Find a faculty mentor through the SMPH Shapiro Research program
  • Join a research group as an undergraduate assistant or postgraduate fellow

The Emergency Medicine Research Committee (EMRC), ED Research Coordinator Program (EDRC), and Research Administration have distinct roles. Depending on a project’s funding, setting, and operational needs, an investigator may work with more than one team.

Visit the Mentorship & Training page to learn more about our research opportunities for learners at all levels.

Not sure where to start? Tell us what you are planning, who is involved, and where the research will take place. We will help connect you with the appropriate service or departmental review process. Email demresearch@medicine.wisc.edu to discuss.
