Focus on POCUS: Next Level

Our one-day Focus on POCUS: Next Level course is ideal for clinicians who are confident with basic point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) skills like basic cardiac, lung and abdominal imaging, and want to take their ultrasound skills to the next level. This course is great next step for participants after our Focus on POCUS: Basic course!

The next will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, from 8 am–5 pm.

Course Overview

Intended audience: Physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) working in outpatient, inpatient, or emergency care settings. Enrollment is limited to 18 participants to maintain a low student-to-instructor ratio for optimal learning. Participants should be comfortable with basic POCUS skills.

Course content: The Next Level course covers advanced lung, cardiac, abdomen, DVT, and MSK ultrasound. Topics covered will include cardiac function, wall motion abnormalities, right ventricular function and resuscitative cardiac ultrasound, as well as pulmonary edema, lung consolidation, aorta, biliary, and other abdominal ultrasound applications.

Course structure: This one-day course includes a unique blend of hands-on and lecture-based instruction, as well as asynchronous learning. In order to optimize scanning time, some pre-work lectures are required. Our small group format (3:1 instructor to learner ratio) is ideal for learners seeking ample hands-on scanning experience with customized instruction.

Outcomes: Participants will have the opportunity to obtain 20-30 proctored ultrasound exams on standardized patients and use ultrasound simulators to gain confidence in cardiac and lung pathology.

CME/CCE: The UW–Madison Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership will award continuing education credit dependent upon individual participation in course.
