Brian Patterson inducted as Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association

Brian Patterson, MD, MPH

Brian Patterson, MD, MPH, tenured associate professor of emergency medicine, has been honored as a 2025 Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA).

FAMIA status acknowledges Patterson’s sustained contributions to the application of informatics in clinical practice and AI-driven care delivery. He joins a distinguished class of health informatics leaders shaping the field through innovation and leadership.

As Medical Director for Predictive Analytics and UW Health’s inaugural Physician Administrative Director for Clinical Artificial Intelligence, Patterson has led key initiatives using AI tools to leverage routinely collected clinical data to enhance patient care, both in the emergency department and across the health system.

He also serves as a leader for the Emergency Care Systems Lab, a research and clinical innovation collaborative housed in the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine that aims to reimagine emergency care by building tangible health care solutions using data science, technology and systems design. His federally funded research is also advancing geriatric emergency medicine and the development of intelligent falls-risk screening systems.

Patterson’s induction into this prestigious group reflects his dedication to blending clinical expertise and data science — ensuring advanced AI tools directly improve patient outcomes through safe and responsible innovation.

The AMIA announced the 2025 class of fellows in November, with a formal induction ceremony held at its annual Clinical Informatics Conference in May of this year.
