Dr. Greg Rebella received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and completed a pediatrics residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He returned to Wisconsin for fellowship training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) and joined the University of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine in 2008 as one of the founding members of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine program and its director of pediatric education. Working closely with residency leadership in both Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Rebella developed the first formalized PEM curriculum at UW. Throughout his tenure, this curriculum has adapted to an ever-changing learning environment—larger and more heterogeneous groups of trainees, the availability of more advanced teaching modalities, new competency assessment requirements, and changes to the clinical space all influence the approach to teaching pediatrics to emergency medicine trainees.
Dr. Rebella has broad interests and is a published author in sports injury epidemiology, as well as teaching otoscopy skills to medical residents. It was his expertise in the latter that led his colleague, Dr. James Berbee, to enlist him in developing the Wispr digital otoscope, which has become a valuable tool that greatly facilitates patient care and otoscopy skill acquisition.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Rebella is active in coaching his two children in their sporting activities, travel, and reading. He is an entrepreneur and inventor, having created (along with his family) Buddy Balls, an award-winning toy that has been featured in numerous print and television spots and is sold in stores across the globe. Partnering with the BerbeeWalsh family, they have donated over 12,000 Buddy Balls to sick and injured children.
