Dr. Jamie Hess earned her medical degree from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, followed by residency training in Emergency Medicine at Baystate Medical Center in Massachusetts. She then completed a fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Prior to joining the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Hess served as faculty at Hennepin County Medical Center, the University of Minnesota Medical Center, and the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital.

Since joining the University of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine in 2012, Dr. Hess has held several key educational leadership roles. As Director of Medical Student Education, she played a central role in integrating Emergency Medicine as a required component of the ForWard curriculum. In 2018, she transitioned to a broader leadership position as Director for Quality, Patient Safety, and Interprofessional Education at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). In this role, she developed a Faculty Quality Improvement (QI) Coaching Program to support student-led QI projects across 45 clinical sites. She also serves as Chair of the SMPH Student Promotions and Review Committee.

Within the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Hess currently serves as Medical Director for Patient Experience and Patient Relations, as well as Interim Medical Director for the Pediatric Emergency Department.

At UW Health, she has held multiple institutional leadership roles, including President of Medical Staff and Chair of the Council of Faculty for UW Health. She currently serves as President of the UW Health Medical Board and President of the Medical Staff.
