Dr. Jamie Hess graduated from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and subsequently completed her emergency medicine residency in Massachusetts at Baystate Medical Center. She then pursued a fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Prior to joining the team at UW, she worked as faculty at the Hennepin County Medical Center, the University of Minnesota Medical Center, and the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Hess joined the University of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine in 2012 and has served in multiple education leadership roles. She was the Director of Medical Student Education and played a critical role in transitioning Emergency Medicine from an elective to a required component of the ForWard curriculum for all medical students. In 2018, she assumed a leadership role at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) as Director for Quality, Patient Safety and Interprofessional Education. She oversees a team of faculty QI coaches in leading quality improvement projects for students at 45 clinics across multiple healthcare systems. She is also currently is the Chair of the UW SMPH Student Promotions and Review Committee.

Dr. Hess also holds several institutional leadership roles at UW Health. These include being the President of UW Medical Foundation, Chair of Council of Faculty, and Vice Chair of the UW Medical Foundation Board of Directors. She is also Secretary/Treasurer of the UW Medical Board.

Dr. Hess works clinically in both the pediatric and adult emergency departments and is part of the core ultrasound faculty.
