Research Goals
The Prehospital Medicine research group aims to improve the health of communities and care of prehospital, emergency medical services (EMS) patients by advancing the evidence-based practice of prehospital personnel.
Prehospital medicine is an essential part of the public health and public safety systems and these systems are tightly linked with emergency departments (EDs) and hospitals nationwide. However, EMS practice has been based on in-hospital practice or perceived best practices from the field, with limited supporting research. Furthermore, little research has explored the public health role of EMS. The research group is working to overcome these deficiencies and advance the science of prehospital medicine.
