The BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine recognizes how deeply our graduate medical education alumni are shaping emergency medicine through their contributions to patient care, education, research, advocacy, service to our profession, and outreach to communities.
Our alumni remain an enduring part of our department’s story.
To foster a community dedicated to the advancement of our specialty and programs at UW, each year we invite our distinguished graduates to share perspectives on matters important to today’s trainees, faculty, and other clinicians practicing within emergency services by giving a Grand Rounds lecture in Madison.

“Truth as Treatment: Reimagining the Hippocratic Oath in the Age of Misinformation”
Presented by Chris Ford, MD, FACEP
Residency Class of 2017
Dr. Chris Ford is an experienced emergency medicine physician with practice in both rural and urban settings. He earned his biology degree from the University of South Carolina–Columbia and medical doctorate from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he was active in student leadership. He completed his emergency medicine residency at UW and served as chief resident in his final year.
Dr. Ford currently serves as a practicing physician and Director of Public Relations for Emergency Medicine Specialists, S.C., in Milwaukee. He also sits on the Advisory Committee for Wisconsin Emergency Medical Services for Children (WEMSC), advancing pediatric emergency care statewide.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Ford is an active community advocate — chairing the People’s Maps Commission in 2020-21 at the invitation of Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, co-founding the Dyslexic Medical Professionals Group, and supporting community health programs such as the AARP’s Walk With a Doc. He also hosts Pulse Check Wisconsin, a podcast connecting emergency medicine with everyday health — using real ED stories, prevention tips, and expert insights to help people across Wisconsin better understand their health and the care they receive.
In 2025, Dr. Ford was named one of 40 Under 40 Leaders in Health by the National Minority Quality Forum. He is a member of the Committee to Protect Health Care and a public advocate for quality, affordable health care that protects patients over profits. Dr. Ford has penned several news editorials, including in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and The Wisconsin Independent, and has appeared on MS NOW and PBS Wisconsin — contributing to stories on the current government shutdown, cuts to Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplaces, and emergency care in light of Wisconsin’s abortion laws.
